A man accused of holding up two shops in Pennsylvania this week with hypodermic needles he claimed were tainted with HIV is also wanted in Delaware for two earlier stickups, police said today.

Kevin M. Cox, 37, of Wilmington, allegedly brandished syringes he said were infected with the virus that causes AIDS to rob a Rehoboth steak shop on Saturday and used the same threat in the attempted robbery of a New Castle County hair salon on Monday, said Delaware State Police.

Yesterday, Pennsylvania State Police said Cox was suspected of robbing two Delaware County stores this week.

Cox allegedly struck Sunday at the Cameo Water Wear bathing suit store in Concord Township's Glen Eagle Shopping center. According to troopers, Cox walked directly up to a clerk, pulled two needles from his black hooded sweatshirt and said "these two needles are HIV positive, open the register or I'll stick you."

The clerk opened a cash register and Cox grabbed $264 in cash, police said.

On Monday, Cox hit a Concord Township tanning parlor, police said. He entered the California Sun Mega Salon on the Wilmington-West Chester Pike and allegedly confronted a lone clerk with three or four hypodermic needles. He left with $50. Police said a surveillance camera recorded Cox getting into a getaway vehicle, a 2002 silver Lexus RX-3 SUV with Pennsylvania license plate EMD6030.

Cox, who is 5-foot-8 and has green eyes, is considered dangerous and should not be approached, police said.

Anyone who has any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Delaware State Police at 302-834-2630 ext. 2 or Pennsylvania State Police at 484-840-1000.
