Video: 2 men on bikes wanted in shooting of father, toddler in Kensington
Both the father and son are in stable condition now. Police are seeking the public's help finding the gunmen.
Police on Tuesday released video of two young men on bicycles who are wanted in a double shooting that wounded a father and his toddler son on the porch of their Kensington rowhouse last week.
The two gunmen rode down the 3300 block of Malta Street and both fired toward the porch, where the 25-year-old father was sitting and his 2-year-old son was playing, about 9:15 p.m. Friday.
The father was shot once in his right knee and his son was shot twice, in his right wrist and his right buttock. Both of the toddler's wounds were in-and-out.
The boy, Pryce Johnson, is in stable condition at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
"I want to say to whoever did this that my son is blessed," the boy's mother, Donata Johnson, 25, said Tuesday. "He’s here for a purpose and his purpose has not been served yet. He’s a miracle baby. My baby might not be the same. He’s scared."
She added, crying: "No 2-year-old should ever have to experience something like this."
Johnson said her husband, who remained in stable condition Tuesday at Temple University Hospital, was not the target of the shooting. Police said they do not know if the father was the target.
As the gunmen rode down the street on BMX-type bikes, one yelled out: "This is our block."
Without stopping, they began firing. After the shooting, the gunmen pedaled away and turned right onto Westmoreland Street. Police said 16 shell casings were found in the aftermath.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The shooters have been described as black men in their 20s. One had his hair in braids, was wearing a black shirt and carrying a dark-colored duffel bag. The second was about 5-foot-11 and wearing a light-colored shirt.
Anyone with information on them is asked to call Detective Dusak or Detective Sheeron with the East Detective Division at 215-686-3243 or the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477). Tips, which can be anonymous, can also be submitted online.
