Philadelphia officially recognizes Indigenous Peoples Day
2:10
Oct. 11 marked the fifth Annual Indigenous Peoples Day Philly celebration at Shackamaxon (Penn Treaty Park) in Philadelphia, Pa. Though the event is in its fifth year, this is the first year that Philadelphia has officially recognized Indigenous Peoples Day. The annual event was organized by Indigenous Peoples’ Day Philly, Inc (IPD Philly), an Indigenous-led non-profit organization based in Philadelphia, PA.
Mayor Kenney signed an executive order in January replacing Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day.
