Police find 2-year-old safe at Southwest Philadelphia hotel, take man into custody

Police are searching for Byron McDonald II, a 28-year-old Philadelphia man they say was last seen Friday afternoon on the 2500 block of North Bancroft Street.

Philadelphia police took a man into custody Monday afternoon in connection with the kidnapping of a 2-year-old boy who was found safe inside a Southwest Philadelphia hotel.

Authorities said earlier Monday Byron McDonald II, 28, was wanted in connection with the abduction of the toddler, also named Byron McDonald. Police did not elaborate on their relationship. Both were found Monday afternoon inside the Aloft Hotel on the 4300 block of Island Avenue near the Philadelphia International Airport, police said.

Pennsylvania State Police had issued an Amber Alert Monday for the child, which indicated he was last seen with McDonald on Friday afternoon on the 2500 block of North Bancroft Street in North Philadelphia.
