A landfill in the borough of National Park will soon be the site of a 5-megawatt solar-power generator.
The township has entered a preliminary agreement with Hartz Solar, a division of Hartz Mountain Industries Inc., of Secaucus, N.J., to install the panels. The parties are negotiating the terms of the lease.
The Hawthorne Landfill, at Woodlawn Avenue and South Grove Road, closed in 1982 and is owned by the town, said Freeholder Director Stephen Sweeney. The county last year gave the borough $20,000 to create a redevelopment plan for the property. Sweeney said the lease could bring the town about $125,000 in yearly revenue.
