Atlantic City authorities were trying to determine who drew swastikas and wrote racial slurs and lewd remarks on a pillar near the Boardwalk over the weekend.
An officer noticed the graffiti near the Columbia Avenue pavilion during his patrol Monday morning and notified the division that investigates bias crimes, said Detective Sgt. Angelo Maimone. The graffiti, which had been scribbled with a black marker, were removed after authorities photographed the images.
Maimone said that it appeared to be an isolated incident, but that information had been forwarded to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the U.S. Department of Justice for review. Local synagogues have been notified, he said. - Barbara Boyer
