History:
The Presbyterian Church at Woodbury started in 1721 on a small patch of land in Woodbury. In 1834, a new building was erected on the corner of Broad and Centre Streets in downtown Woodbury. In 1906, the building was enlarged by adding a new sanctuary. We have a history of successful, long pastor tenures. At the current time, we have an interim pastor as we search for a full-time pastor. In 2006, our church celebrated its 285th anniversary, and continues to serve one another and the community through Christ.
What's special about your congregation?
The members of the Presbyterian Church at Woodbury are a collection of willing hearts and able bodies who continually do the work of Christ in our congregation, our community, and our world. We have consistent fellowship and Bible study times attended by people of all ages. Our children's and youth ministries provide a place for children and teenagers to get to know Christ on a personal level. Worship on Sundays is a gathering of a large family that loves one another and God, and continues to offer support and encouragement to anyone who comes through our doors. We constantly strive to uphold our mission statement: Empowered and led by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, the Presbyterian Church at Woodbury is a living witness through prayer, preaching, teaching and outreach. We encourage and challenge all to grow spiritually, to care for one another, to share the good news, and to do so with a loving, joyful heart.
How do you see your role in your community or in today's society as a whole?
Our congregation reaches out to our community and world in many ways. Our involvement in the Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries seeks to build community in Woodbury, as well as serve the needy through our food bank and "Handy Helpers." Service projects throughout the year offer support to our surrounding areas, through Urban Promise, Habitat for Humanity, CROP Walk, and other humanitarian organizations. Youth through adults serve on mission trips throughout the year to various places, such as Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Maine and Honduras. Outreach and evangelism are important parts of our church's vision, and so we strive to be a constantly acting force in the world, being Christ's hands and feet to those around us.
