Chester woman dies after being hit by stray bullet

A Chester woman who was shot while lying in bed died early this morning.

Kathy Stewart, 49, had been in critical condition after a bullet pierced the wall of her mother's home and hit her in the head at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Police said Stewart was an innocent bystander to a gunfight that erupted near the house on the 300 block of Franklin Street.

Family members were making funeral arrangements today, said Katisha Stewart, the oldest of Stewart's three children.

Chester police are looking for two men captured by video surveillance. No arrests have been announced, and detectives did not immediately return calls for comment.
